These receiving centres, which started last year, are meant to receive and process the date harvest.

The six receiving centres of Al Foah Company are Al Sad, Bu Kreyya, Al Mirfaa, Al Foah, Sih Al Khair and Ghiathy.

Speaking at a Press conference at the Emirates Dates Factory in Al Sad, Eng. Kareem Mohei Eddin Saeed, CEO of Al Foah Company, announced that Dh20 million will be utilised on the plastic crates that carry the dates, Dh26 million for the construction works and Dh7 million for bringing in more equipment.

Eng. Saeed Salem Messari Al Hameli, General Manager of Al Foah, said the company had taken many steps to ensure that the receiving process of the date harvest works faster than in the previous years. "We have appointed more than 1,000 new employees to work at the receiving centres. We have provided them with proper training for the job," he said.

Eng. Al Hameli added: "In terms of infrastructure and equipment, we have added more docks to receive the date-carrying trucks, which now total 14. The company will build 22 new docks for the receiving season in 2008."

Al Foah Company has set up new air-conditioned tents for farmers to stay in during the process of delivery of the crop.

Al Foah is also sending SMS messages to farmers with information on the new receiving system and has set up a toll-free hot-line for farmers. Those with any queries can call Al Foah's toll-free hot-line 8005551.

It may be noted that the Al Foah Palm Sector Development Company includes Al Foah Farm, Emirates Dates Factory in Al Saad and Al Dhafra Dates Factory in Al Marfaa as well as the receiving centres in Abu Dhabi.
