Dh300,000 loss in fire incidents

ABU DHABI — Fire accidents in various parts of the UAE on Tuesday resulted in material loss estimated at Dh300,000.

According to the Operations Room at the Civil Defence General Directorate, fire destroyed some trading establishments, besides destroying a number of wooden structures in labour camps. Fires were also reported from residential buildings, but no casualties were reported. However, a woman was rushed to hospital after she suffered burns in one of the accidents. An estimated Dh150,000 losses were incurred in a fire accident at a power sub-station at Marfa in the Western Region. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, but it had destroyed a wooden structure by then, a Civil Defence report said.

In Sharjah, a fire broke out at an electricity office complex in Al Sakhba area on Tuesday. Fire brigade managed to put out the fire in 10 minutes. Material loss in this case is yet to be determined.

In another accident, fire broke out at 12.02pm in an industrial area in Al Quoz, Dubai, on Tuesday. The fire raged for over an hour before the Civil Defence team put it out. The fires completely gutted four structures in a labour camps, and losses were estimated at Dh80,000.

In Abu Dhabi, fire broke out at the main transformer serving some companies and factories in Musafah industrial region. No casualities were reported and the losses were estimated at Dh3,000.

A house in Al Markhaniya area in Al Ain city was partially destroyed in a fire accident. A UAE national woman who happened to be at the house during the accident was hurt and rushed to Al Ain Hospital.
