Dh2m grants for medical research

DUBAI — The General Secretariat of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Awards for Medical Sciences yesterday announced Dh2million grants for research work for 11 scientists associated with the UAE University in Al Ain.

The scientists, who will receive the next round of grants, include Prof J.F.B. Morrison, Prof John M. Conlon, Prof Valsamma Eapen, Dr Iman B. Hassan, Dr Khazzam El Sadig, Dr Sameer Attoub, Dr Petroianu George, Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Marzouqi, Dr Omar El Agnaf, Dr Safa Aldeen Saudi Shehad and Prof Ernest Adeghate.

The UAE Minister of Health, Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Deputy Chairman of Shaikh Hamdan Federation and Member of Shaikh Hamdan Awards, Mirza Al Sayegh gave away the appreciation certificates to print/electronic media and government entities for their participation in making the awards that were held in December 2006, a success.

"I would like to thank all media institutions and representatives who are with us now for their interest in, and coverage of, the various activities and functions of the award. They have indeed played a major role in publicising the award and highlighting its role, mission and objectives," he concluded.

Prof Najib Al Khaja, general secretary of the award, thanked members of the General Secretariat and the Scientific Committee, and all the other committees for their efforts towards raising the award to the highest possible levels.
