A luxurious multi-bedroom apartment or even a small aircraft, if given Dh15 million to pocket.

But Shaikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan bought ‘Mabrokan’, the camel, for the same amount. And guess what? The animal is making him proud. On Tuesday, Mabrokan stood victorious, ahead of all in the Zomool Al Majaheem race on the first day of the Al Dhafra Camel Beauty Pageant in Al Dhafra.

The Camel Beauty Pageant is being held under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed forces. The event is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage Authority.

Later, after Mabrokan won, Shaikh Mohammed bin Sultan decided not to let it participate in the other races.

Instead, it would only be for breeding as it is of an excellent pedigree.

Mabrokan had already achieved an advanced position in the competition breaking all the former records.

The race was attended by Shaikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Shaikh Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazruwaei, Director General of Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage Authority and a large number of Shaikhs and princes from the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council Countries.

The contenders from UAE excelled winning the top three positions in the four rounds.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed said the festival was an even bigger success compared with the past pageants. From his part, Shaikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan said, “There was a tough competition between the contenders.” He praised the organising committee for their efforts in preserving the ancestral heritage of the region in the form of such events.
