Dh10b new power plant in Jebel Ali

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) will launch the final phase of M Power Station in Jebel Ali by the
year-end. The more than Dh10 billion facility will increase the authority’s production by 2,000 megawatt of electricity and 140 million gallons of desalinated water per day, said Waleed Salman, acting Vice-President — Strategy and Business Development at Dewa.

The project is part of Dewa’s efforts designed to meet the rapid demand and consumption growth for water supply in different parts of Dubai, he noted, adding that the authority also has many power related projects in the pipeline.

The achievements of the authority include the execution of 14 power stations in the first half this year, of which two major substations of 400 kilovolt at a total cost of Dh900 million, as well as 12 substations of 132 kilovolt at a total cost of more than Dh1.8 billion.

He said: “There are many projects which are still under construction including two major substations of 400 kilovolt at a total cost of Dh960 million as well as stretching of 132 km-long overhead power lines and ground cables for its 400 kilovolt transmission network at a total cost of Dh720 million.”

Work is underway on building 27 more substations of 132 kilovolt at a total cost of Dh1.5 billion, as well as 340 km-long cables of 132 kilovolt at a total cost of Dh1. 6 million, he noted. A substation of 400 kilovolt will also be opened as well as 10 more substations of 132 kilovolt during the second half this year, he added.
