A special awards reception was held at Modhesh Fun City on August 22. The competition was launched to encourage consumers to practise safe and economic use of water and electricity to help protect the environment and conserve vital natural resources.
Rashid bin Humaidan, Executive Vice-President for Customer Services, Dewa, said, "The main objective of the competition was to raise awareness of how conserving electricity and water can help to protect our fragile environment. The response from Dewa consumers was magnificent and clearly demonstrated that consumers do consider saving water and electricity as a daily part of their lives. Not just to cut down on their bills but also to contribute towards saving our planet."
Participants were invited to answer two simple questions, 'When does the peak load of electricity system occur in Dubai?' and 'What is the main source of drinking water in Dubai?' The aim of these specific questions was to make consumers aware and to avoid using unnecessary electrical equipment and to emphasise Dubai's limited water resources. They were also asked to describe ways in which they try to save water and electricity in their homes along with ideas of how Dewa could further encourage water and energy conservation.
