Dedicated Quran channel launched

DUBAI — In a global first initiative, satellite radio pioneer Worldspace has launched a dedicated 24-hour 'Quran Channel' for its Islamic audience during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Quran Channel has been conceived, designed and programmed to serve the information, education and spiritual needs of the community.

The channel has recitations from the Holy Quran and discourses by eminent speakers, besides live broadcast of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) sessions.

DIHQA sessions being broadcast on the Quran Channel will continue till October 29, 2004 from 9.00pm to 10.30pm and 11pm to 1am.

"Along with Channel Islam International (CHI), a 24-hour dedicated channel for the Islamic community on the WorldSpace platform, Quran Channel provides a unique combination of infotainment during Ramadan" said Khawla Lootah, Managing Director, Worldspace Middle East.

CHI features dedicated Islamic news, education, specific programmes for women and children as well as programmes on Hadeeth, Tafseer and the Seerah during Ramadan.
