He said this at a Press conference, which was also attended by Soliman Abdul Al Khaliq, Executive Manager of the Award and Khawla Bahlouq, Head of the Distinguished Department of Hamdan's Award.

There is about 12 per cent increase in the number of nominations compared to last year in spite of raising the excellence standards from 70 per cent to 80 per cent this year, Al Sweidi stated.

This rise in the number of nominees reflects the enthusiasm of the teachers and students who are keen to take part in the award, he said.

Al Sweidi praised the efforts of Abu Dhabi Educational Zone, which fought bravely till it won the award while it participated in three phases of the award.

He added that the members of the Central Arbitration Panel would pay visits to some of the GCC countries, which participated in the award by next week.

The Central Arbitration Panel consists of 25 Ph.D degree holders and 35 educationists from the Ministry of Education.

Regarding complaints by some applicants about the misuse of power by the award panel, Al Sweidi said that each applicant would be sent a letter detailing his strengths and shortcomings.

As for the applicants who will join the second stage of the interview, the panel will get in touch with them on the phone or via SMS and those who do not receive any calls should wait for an assessment letter, he stated.

Regarding the exclusion of a female teacher from the nominations, he said it was a mistake by Al Ain Educational Zone. The arbitration panel will consider her application next week and if the panel approved her, she will be interviewed like the other nominees, he added.
