Dates and coffee for Eid worshippers

Some 40,000 dates and cups of coffee are expected to be consumed by worshippers celebrating the start of Eid Al Adha at Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi this Friday.

Starting from 6am, a dedicated booth will offer the tens of thousands of dates and Arabic coffee, free of charge to mosque visitors after the Salat Al Eid prayers.

The initiative has been organised in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (ADTCA), which will also have 10 other similar booths across the Capital and Al Ain.

Mosque closed for visitors

The Grand Mosque will be opened only for worshippers this Friday, but will be closed for other visitors until October 27.

Yasalam festival

Coinciding with the Eid weekend, the Yasalam festival will start on the Corniche tomorrow, with an attempt to build a record-breaking numbers of sand castles. All residents and tourists have been invited to come to the Al Sahil beach on Abu Dhabi Corniche to help in the attempt to build more then 683 sand castles.

Short film festival

The Arabic version of the world’s largest festival of short films, Tropfest Arabia, is also part of these Eid celebrations. The Capital’s Corniche will be screening shorts from Middle East and North Africa on Friday.
