DUBAI — Dubai Customs has donated Dh10 million to the Dubai Cares campaign. The fund was collected from the annual savings under a department programme and contributions from employees and clients, Dubai Customs announced yesterday.
The funds were raised in response to the initiative of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who launched the Dubai Cares’ campaign to help educate more than one million children in poor countries around the world.
Dubai Customs distributed a number of charity collection boxes at Dubai Customs Headquarters, Customs Center at Al Hamriya, Customs Center at the Dry Port and Customs Center in Jebel Ali Free Zone area and opened the contribution opportunities to employees and clients.
Executive directors from different departments within Dubai Customs also contributed.
Dubai Customs director-general Ahmed Butti Ahmed said that the Dubai Cares campaign relies on Shaikh Mohammed’s vision in recognising education as the best long-term solution to alleviate poverty in the developing world.
“Additionally, it is also one of the most powerful instruments for laying the basis for sustained economic growth, sound governance and effective institutions,” he added.
