Crackdown on roadside fruit, vegetable vendors

RAS AL KHAIMAH — Twelve roadside kiosks displaying fruits and vegetables in the open were yesterday demolished by the Ras Al Khaimah Municipality in the southern area of Al Dastar, 90km from Ras Al Khaimah City.

The move was part of the campaign launched by the Environment and Health Department in the emirate to curb errant traders operating by the roadside and those displaying products in unsuitable and unhygienic conditions.

The Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, said the municipality had received several complaints from people about the proliferation of unlicensed kiosks in the Al Dastar area. The municipality allows the construction of buildings six metres away from the road, said Al Shamsi.
