In the compensation suit filed in the Court of First Instance in May 2005, the worker had demanded Dh75,000. He claimed that his services were terminated without justifiable reason, which had caused him financial harm as he had to waste one full year looking for another job.

The petitioner stated that he had worked for 17 years with the company as foreman.

The company’s lawyer argued that the worker had become old (54 years) and the company preferred recruiting a young and able hand.

The court, however, ordered the company to pay Dh40,000 to the worker. The verdict was upheld by the higher courts.
