Course on germplasm conservation

DUBAI - In collaboration with the Opec Fund for Economic Development and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) yesterday opened a five-day specialised training course on 'In-situ germplasm conservation' on its premises at Al Ruwaiyyah in Dubai.

Participants from the UAE and a number of countries including Afghanistan, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Syria and Sudan are attending the course.

Dr Mohammed Al Attar, Director-General of ICBA, said that by the end of the training course, participants would be familiar with the concepts underlying in-situ germplasm conservation.

The training course will focus on topics of collection and restoration of mountain germplasm in the UAE.
