Country serious about modernising democratic institutions: Dr Gargash

DUBAI — Dr Anwar Gargash heading the new ministry of Federal National Council Affairs, has said that the very formation of the ministry signals that the UAE is serious in its efforts to modernise its representative institutions.

"This will take place in various forms. For one it will ensure that the Cabinet is better represented in the deliberation of the Federal National Council," he said.

Furthermore, the utmost priority is to successfully organise the electoral committee elections as outlined by His Highness the President, he noted.

"The process we must make sure is successfully organised and brings meaningful representation and to use the success as a further stepping stone towards greater reforms as indicated in the presidential speech,'' he said.

''There is widespread agreement that in the development process of the UAE, we have seen a certain lag between developing political institutions and other aspects of development. We will try through the ministry of the Federal National Council Affairs to ameliorate this aspect,'' he added.
