General managers and senior officials of these companies participated in the meeting held in the Technical Committee Hall during which they aired many of their grievances regarding the municipality's rules and regulations on construction and related issues.

Essa Al Maidour, Assistant Director-General for General Projects Affairs, chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Rashad Bukhash, Director of General Projects Department and Abdullah Ahmed Najjar, Head of Projects Construction Section. The officials explained the municipality's position regarding the practical difficulties faced by the contractors in taking up their projects.

They also gave explanations on the municipality's rules and regulations.

During the course of the meeting, the company representatives gave many suggestions regarding payment of bills and conditions of the contracts.

Al Maidour said the municipality had taken these suggestions seriously. "We will study these suggestions thoroughly. We are ready to be more flexible to go along with the construction boom witnessed by Dubai at present," he said, adding the meeting was intended to simplify the civic body's procedures as well as enhance its relationship with the contracting companies. "We are also going to invite other contractors for participating in all the projects being taken up by the municipality, so that they will benefit from the municipal projects. These projects include those which are going to be put up for tender in the coming weeks," he said.

Such meetings with contractors are going to be repeated, he said, adding: "We will also sit with all the consultants who are working with the municipality."

The company representatives who participated in the meeting expressed their gratitude for the municipality's initiative to look into their problems. They said they look forward to similar meetings in the near future.
