This follows a police complaint lodged by a Saudi national Mashari S. that he had been cheated at the City Centre in Deira by two African men who took $46,500 from him and vanished. The pair conveyed an impression that they were owners of real estate and asked him to join them in a business venture.

Mashari believed them and brought the sum with him. The duo told him that they wanted to see the cash. One of them, who is now absconding, counted the banknotes and returned it to the Saudi. After they left the City Centre, Mashari found that they had replaced the banknotes with ordinary black papers.

He gave a description of the two men to the Criminal investigations Department (CID), which arrested one of the men at his residence. A safe was found in the house containing $15,500. On interrogation, the man who is on a visit visa, first said the safe wasn't his. But later he confessed to the charge. Police are on the lookout for the second man.
