"About three hundred thousand people die from Aids each year in Africa. A large number of people in Africa live on only one meal a day and several others just survive on a single meal in a few days. There are homeless people living in shelters made of plastic paper or tin sheets. Many people beg to feed their hunger and quench their thirst.

Crime and prostitution is at its peak cause that is their only means of survival. These are the unfortunate people of the world," says Glenn Perry, who spent his time lending a helping hand at Ethiopia's Moses Children's Orphanage and the Child Relief Centre, an organisation dedicated to helping street kids and abused children. He also devoted a part of his time educating underprivileged kids and working with children affected by Aids.

"It was highly rewarding and soul satisfying" says Perry, who has been regularly involved with charity projects.

During the Gulf war, he staged several peace marches and concerts in aid of peace. He has organised and performed concerts in aid of cancer, Parkinson's disease, and the blind.

Perry's mission early this year was in Sri Lanka. A few weeks after the tsunami disaster, he flew to Sri Lanka to help the tsunami victims in the relief camps.

What is it that drives him to charitable causes?

He says that although he was always involved with charity work, the death of his father three years ago has driven him in to the cause very deeply.

Perry is also committed to helping upcoming local talent in this country. His concerts have always served as a platform for young aspiring musicians and singers of the UAE.

On August 12, Perry will feature some young talented singers. Also billed to perform are The Emirates International Singers and the Dubai Children's Choir who are a group of 40 talented little children.

Perry will then take the stage and give a concert of evergreen hits. He will also sing his very own MTV hits Laila and Tonight and continue to sing songs from his last CD release My Angel, an album that he wrote and dedicated to his ailing mother. Perry has also specially composed a song entitled Beautiful Children, which he will debut at the concert.
