Children in the age group between 7 and 10 years (juniors) and between 11 and 14 years (seniors) took part in the event, aimed at increasing their awareness of the wildlife and ways to save their natural habitat. Over 66 students took part in the event.

Dr Reza Khan, Head of the Zoo Section of the Dubai Municipality said: "If we want people to recognise and understand the need to protect animals, we should start with children." The children drew and painted the animals in the zoo.

"We encourage such events involving children because in a metropolitan city like Dubai, it is through events such as these that people get to appreciate the beauty of animals.
