Committee Set up to Strengthen National, Communal Solidarity

ABU DHABI — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, chaired here on Monday the Council of Ministers’ session in the presence of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Affairs Minister, at the Presidential Palace.

The Cabinet decided to set up a higher ministerial committee to be chaired by the minister of culture, youth and community development, tasked with the implementation of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s call for boosting national and communal solidarity in the UAE community.

Shaikh Mohammed noted during the deliberations the significance of the UAE President’s call, which he said “reflects integrated vision of the leadership based on realisation of sustainable development in the UAE, whose important components are community development, human resources development and solidarity”.

The committee membership includes Minister of Social Affairs as deputy chairperson and ministers of Education, Health, Labour and State Minister Maitha Al Shamsi and Chairman of National Media Council.

It is set to achieve the objectives of Shaikh Khalifa’s call through coordination and mobilisation of social efforts at the public, civil and private sector levels to inculcate the concept of family bondage and social solidarity among different categories in the community.

The Council of Ministers’ decision specified 2010- 2012 to enable the committee streamline general framework of its plan, programme and communications to submit it to the Cabinet to take appropriate resolutions.

The Cabinet also agreed the Federal National Council will discuss the policies of the Ministry of Health and the Emirates Identity Authority in its next session.

It also ratified a number of agreements signed between the UAE and Spain on the extradition of criminals and mutual legal assistance in criminal issues, as well as transfer of the convicts. — Wam
