E. Velu, Chairman and Managing Director of Arunai Engineering College (AEC) and Jeeva Velu Residential School located in Thiruvannamala near Chennai, currently, on a visit to Dubai said, “We are in the UAE to promote the college among the large segment of Indian students, particularly from Kerala and Tamil Nadu residing in the country.”

Located on 200 acres of land, the Arunai Engineering College is equipped with the best of infrastructure and facilities offering all programmes in the engineering faculty to both local and international students.

"Around 4,000 students are currently studying at the college and we hope to attract a large number from the Gulf. According to State regulations, around 15 per cent seats are reserved for NRI students," said Velu, disclosing that admission under the NRI quota is on first-come basis.

The fee structure — around $4,000 annual fee, which includes tuition as well as boarding and lodging facilities — is far more competitive than any other college in the state offering the best infrastructure and academic standards, Velu commented.

The college was opened in 1993, but the awareness level about AEC among the Gulf students is very low, he disclosed.

Velu said that the college is gaining popularity because of its job placement opportunities offered.

"Leading software and IT companies conduct on-campus interviews and select a large number of our graduates each year," he pointed out, clarifying the placement opportunities is available for both local and NRI students.

A representative office will soon be established in Dubai to help NRI students with more information on the admission intake, registration procedures and programmes available at AEC and the residential school, he added.
