Dr Hussein Abdul Rahman, Director of Medical Affairs at the hospital, who is also the consultant and head of the ENT section, said the girl was born with the defect.

“The patient was using a hearing aid since the time she was six-months old but even this was not working for her. She was recently admitted to the hospital where she underwent a microscopic surgery,” he said.

Dr Rahman added: “The operation took two hours, and was performed as per the international standards in cochlear implant (electronic ear).”

Dr Rahman said the child would be aided by a special computer unit programming process that will process ultrasound waves by converting them into electro-magnetic waves.
