Two other suspects in the case are at large.

The accused allegedly used a gun and a knife to intimidate the victim and forced him to hand over his bag containing the money.

The 29-year-old complainant told the police that on October 8 he was waiting for a cab to go to Sharjah when the incident happened.

“It was about 11.30am I was waiting in the Al Ras area. A car stopped near me. The driver asked me about my destination and offered to drop me for Dh20,” he said.

The complainant added that after he got into the car the driver moved towards Dubai Hospital and then on to Al Mamzar area before pulling over for the front seat passenger to disembark.

After disembarking, the man said he had lost his money.

The Somali accused, who was sitting next to the complainant, asked him to hand over his bag for search. “I refused and held it tight. However, he threatened me with a knife and the other suspect (who is absconding) brandished a gun.”

Then the Somali suspect snatched the bag and pushed him out of the car.

The complainant, however, managed to note the car number and informed the police.

He later pointed out the accused in an identification parade at the police station.
