DUBAI — Officials of the Public Education Department were in for a rude shock when they discovered that many Class XII students of Adult Education Centres were so poor in English that they couldn’t even write their names in the language properly.
This came to light yesterday during a meeting of the officials of the Public Education Department and the heads of its affiliated sections. The meeting had been called by the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Interestingly, these students have been studying English for the last 12 years during which they have passed all their English tests.
The meeting, also attended by the director of the Public Education Department, had been called to familiarise the Adult Education Centre students with some of the procedures of filling up forms in government schools.
Among the officials present were the directors of the evening classes of Adults Education Centres.
