Workers are busy putting up the lights, erecting the giant ferries wheels and colourful tents and the streets themselves are being decorated with creative lights that will "wink" their welcome to the thousands of visitors expected to pour into the city from January 15.

The festival atmosphere created by colourful banners and lighting is sure to create a picture perfect effect all over the city. Dubai Municipality, in association with the Dubai Shopping Festival office, has already started putting up the decorations and special light fittings in many locations across the city. One can see many workers from Dubai Municipality and other companies working very hard to put up decorations.

Mohammed Al Noori, Head of the Advertising Department, Dubai Municipality and Member of the DSF Organising Committee, said: "Dubai Municipality has done many studies before identifying ideal places for city decoration during DSF 2004. The types of lights that we have finalised are all with creative shapes and artistic designs. The main locations of DSF will be dazzling in their beauty, and the city will truly be converted into a postcard image after dark."

"We are using Light Emitting Diodes (LED), which is hardly ever used for decorations of this nature. This system gives us greater options in terms of placing, handling of weather conditions and even conserves energy. The brightness of LEDs are well known, and they can easily turn night to day," he added.

Mr Al Noori added: "The street decoration, of course, will not be limited to lights and light fittings. There will also be lots of logos of DSF, banners of key sponsors and all these are being presented very creatively because of the designs, shapes and colours. All these together will really change the landscape of the city, in preparation of the huge event that we are getting ready. Visitors to Dubai are sure to be astounded by the sheer artistry of the decorations."
