“If the news of resignation was true, I would be the first to know about it, because I am the one who would receive it,” she said.

But informed sources at the Fund affirmed that it was the minister who had asked Al Zahami to suspend his activities, which is understood as an indirect request for resignation. The source added that Al Zahami had no desire to quit.

The minister told Ajman Radio that she would look into applications by nationals with special needs for the Fund’s grant.

Those people who don’t find national women to marry them, tend to seek other Arab partners.

She disclosed that the Marriage Fund would explore a new mechanism to deliver the grant to its beneficiaries.

The Fund’s financial committee met yesterday in Abu Dhabi to examine the matter. Due to similarities of names, some people not among the recipients of the grant, received them through banks by mistake.

“Current allocations will be enough for 2,227 grants,” she added.

Al Zahami told reporters yesterday that 2,600 out of around 6,000 applications were approved.

“New mechanisms of delivery of the grant will be discussed with banks,” he said.
