The visit is part of a wider tour of the region that has included visits to Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, said John Hawkins, British Consul-General in Dubai, during a Press briefing yesterday.

Hawkins said the tour by Their Royal Highnesses is to reinforce Britain’s friendship with key allies at the most senior levels.

During their time in Dubai, they will undertake a range of engagements reflecting the strength of the relationship between Britain and Dubai. Their Royal Highnesses are expected to meet senior members of the Ruling Family. They will visit a heritage area and meet a wide range of people at an evening reception hosted by the British Consul-General and his wife.

Prince Charles will visit one of Dubai’s major projects and attend a ceremony to mark a significant new British healthcare investment. He will also meet members of the local Anglican Church and attend a ceremony to mark the completion of an important charity project that will support the seafaring community.

In addition to these, the Duchess will visit a local special needs school and open a new British secondary school. The Prince of Wales earlier visited the UAE in 1999 followed by his visit in 2004 to attend the funeral of the late UAE President, Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan.
