This was announced yesterday at a Press conference held to announce the launch of the new campaign on the occasion of the Holy month of Ramadan.

Mohammed Bakkar bin Haidar, General Manager of the association, said: " Through the campaign we are endeavouring to collect Dh30 million as Zakat and and an equivalent amount from donations. We want to convey a certain message to businessmen in particular reminding them that the money they will donate will contribute to alleviating the pain and sufferings of needy families."

The association has 3,287 newly registered families requiring support including 727 families from Ras Al Khaimah, 309 from Fujairah and the rest from Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates.

"During Ramadan we will run a month long special provision project called Al Meer Al Ramadani under which we will distribute among the needy families coupons that can be redeemed from any of the cooperative societies in the country. The coupons will enable them to buy food items mostly required in Ramadan," Mr Bin Haidar said.
