Census staff to get wages

ABU DHABI — Hafsa Al Ulama, Director General of UAE Census 2005, has announced that wages will be paid during the coming week to translators, researchers, supervisors and all those who participated in the census in the Northern Emirates and the East Coast.

Al Ulama said 1081 personnel took part in the operations in Sharjah, 410 in RAK, 264 in Ajman, 206 in Fujairah, 85 in UAQ and 135 in the East Coast (Kalba, Khourfakan, Deba Al Hisn).

She said the total amount of the salaries needed to be paid was around Dh6,500,000.

The census chief said that the amount specified for superintendents was Dh2.7 million, researchers Dh2 million, supervisors Dh1.5 million, and translators' Dh15,400.

Supervisors who worked for the whole period of the census will get the highest pay (Dh6,500) each, while office boys will get the minimum wage of Dh500.

Women represented 15 per cent of the total staff, Al Ulama pointed out.

The salary payment was delayed until receiving the second batch of the Census 2006 budget from the Ministry of Finance. The payments will be made to the entitled staff according to the time schedule, which will be announced later. The census staff will receive their salaries on a day to be earmarked for each Emirate.

The Director General of Census assured that there was no gender discrimination in terms of payments, and that the quantum of the salary depends on the period served by the staff member and in accordance with the production and location of the job for each researcher, after being approved by the superintendent of each group.
