In a report published on the occasion of the annual general meeting of Etisalat, held in the capital this week, Mohammad Hassan Omran, CEO of Etisalat, said that the measure of market penetration is far ahead of any other country in the region.

Summarising the performance of the Corporation last year, he said profits moved in line with business growth to post a rise of 19 per cent while total revenues increased 13 per cent.

"Our strategy has prioritised economic diversification as the basis for future growth which in turn has led to a more open and competitive marketplace," he said.

The legislation that came into force last year concerning the organisation of the telecom sector envisaged the offer of wide choice for customers, whether it was 3G or browing the full range for personal use. The opportunities came with the newly formed eCompany that opened the door for international equipment dealers to enter the market, he noted.

Choice was extended to interface with government departments where Etisalat played a crucial role in the planning and implementation of the Federal eGovernment project. "The Corporation, throughout last year, acted as the technical partner of the Ministry of Finance and Industry, in creating the electronic network that links all federal ministries and bodies, delivering a range of e-services.
