On March 2, the General Department of Operations Room had received information that a car was stolen from a construction site located at Nad Al Hamr. The police rushed to the site and the assistant engineer of Dutco Contracting Company told the police that while he and other labourers were working near a Dubai Municipality project, they saw two UAE nationals in their twenties and wearing pants coming to the site. The UAE nationals inquired with the labourers what type of project was being executed in the area.

Meanwhile, the company's driver, 32-year-old Indian Ramesh, was sleeping in the Hilux pickup with the engine running. The victim woke up and noticed the two men were getting close to him. The driver started to lock the doors of the vehicle but the two accused pushed him inside the car and drove away with him. The driver tried to use his phone but they took it from him.

At the same time the operations room was informed that the driver had been dropped by the two accused at Shaikh Zayed Road near the Internet City. The two accused were later arrested by the police. The court has decided to refer the case to the public prosecution because the case needs to be transferred to the criminal court considering that the assault took place at night and the vehicle was stolen.
