DUBAI — The ninth week of cartoon surprises ended yesterday at Century Mall. The interactive workshop and exhibitions have been attracting crowds of children since the start of DSS 2007.
The interactive workshop involved day to day sessions that covered various aspects of cartoons. Day one of the workshop is an introduction to drawing with materials used by professional cartoonists. Children were taught on drawing styles and techniques, and cartoon strips.
On the second day of the workshop, participants were shown how to draw caricatures and the various techniques involved in lettering design, arts and crafts. The following day was an interesting session on cartoon animation, and an introduction to zoetrope, a mechanical toy consisting of a slotted drum that, when whirled, makes objects within the drum giving the illusion of continuous motion.
The fourth day taught children how to draw well known comic strip characters through a step-by-step demonstration. Day five was an interactive session with cartoon quiz, songs and music, in addition to cartoon guessing games, and numerous competitions.
On day six, the workshop was all about flip books. A flip book is made of different images on each page and as the pages are flipped, moving images are obtained. The workshop teaches children how to make flip books and the art of narrating cartoon stories.
The last day of the workshop was for those who love art and craft. Children were taught puppet animation, puppet making, and the art of creating cartoon figures using various materials.
