Carnivals to mark DSF opening

DUBAI — A variety of carnivals at various venues around the city will be part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Dubai Shopping Festival that begins on January 12. Over 1,000 performers from all over the world will showcase their talent in what is the third of the 10 major DSF 2005 destinations.

The carnivals have different themes and will celebrate different cultures and festivals ending in a grand finale at the Final Carnival to be held at the Dubai Creek Park on the closing day of DSF 2005.

The largest event in this category will be the Dubai World Carnival, which begins on January 13 at 8.00pm at Muraqqabat Road. More than 600 street performers, musicians and children will be part of this festive procession. The event will be repeated on Al Riqqa Street on January 27 and on Al Muraqqabat Street on February 3 and on Al Seef Street on February 10.

Several other events have been planned as part of this Dubai World Carnival. These include the Dream Aqua Boat Carnival which features a huge boat with musicians and street performers that will go around Dubai bringing smiles to the faces of children and their families. The Seasons Carnival will bring to Dubai festivals from all over the world by showcasing how various seasonal festivals are celebrated by different cultures. The Faces of India Carnival will represent the rich and varied Indian culture. This carnival will celebrate Indian food, the colourful traditional Indian costumes as well as Indian wedding customs.

Children will be the focus of the Animation Carnival scheduled from January 28 to February 2. The little-ones will get a chance to meet 3D and 2D animation characters and many other favourite cartoon characters that will be part of this celebration of International Animation Day.

Visitors to Dubai Creek Park can enjoy the Family Carnival organised by the park on January 16 and February 9. A special highlight of the festive season will be the Al Eid Grand Carnival to be held from 8.00pm onwards on Al Seef Street on January 20 and 21. This carnival will highlight the differences between the ways in which different cultures celebrate the festival of Eid. Visitors can enjoy various traditional festive dishes and music at this carnival. “The Dubai Carnivals is our tribute to the festival theme of One World, One Family, One Festival. Through this event we have tried to bring to Dubai festivals and celebrations from all over world to make our festival a truly global event.
