Car, cabin gutted at construction
site; no casualties

DUBAI — The Dubai Civil Defence team put out a fire at an under-construction building in Al Warqa area. The fire, which started at a cabin, gutted a car, although no casualties were reported.

The Operation Room of the Dubai Civil Defence was alerted that a fire had erupted at a cabin in Al Warqa3 area in Dubai. Firefighters from Rashidiya and Al Warqa rushed to the site and managed to extinguish the fire within 24 minutes. The cabin and a car parked outside the building were gutted and a gas cylinder exploded in the fire.

Meanwhile, Major Jamal Ahmed Ibrahim, Director of Safety and Prevention Department, said the engineering team of the Dubai Civil Defence had completed smart fire protection system in 477 buildings in July, which enables it to link them to the operation room of the Dubai Civil Defence. The total number of buildings thus linked since the implementation of the project in 2008 has reached 12,084. A total of 29,112 buildings were surveyed for the system till July, he added.

Major Jamal stressed on the importance of providing smart fire protection systems to all buildings and to ensure that alarm systems and lifts are working properly. amira@khaleejtimes.com
