Some 3,000 people, including families and friends, are expected to gather at the far end of the indstrial area, near 'Munir Hotel', to spend the day in a spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie, focusing their efforts on trying to cut each other's kites, and emerge victorious.

Last week, a similar event was held in Sharjah, opposite the Sahara Centre. Sources told Khaleej Times that some 5,000 kites had been imported from Pakistan for this occasion, with almost all of them already being sold out.

Kite vendors in the capital's Mina area, have also reported brisk business, as Abu Dhabi gets set to prove its mettle at the ancient sport, displaying kites in myriad shapes and sizes!
