Themed Let Our Roads Be Safe, the campaign targeted motorists, especially truck drivers, and was launched by Dubai Police in cooperation with the Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation.
Brigadier Eisa Aman, Deputy Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said that the campaign's goals included increasing awareness among motorists, especially heavy truck drivers, about vital safety measures such as roadworthy tyres and reliable brakes.
He said that two heavy vehicles were seized, and more than 1,140 violations recorded during the campaign. Worn-out tyres topped the list of violations, he added.
"In 2005, goods trucks were involved in 97 accidents, causing 27 deaths and 194 injuries," he informed.
