The remarks follow the recent findings that there is limited access to oral health care which is further compounded by increase in consumption of edibles that are heavily laden with sugar.

“We have found that nearly 90 per cent of adolescent children suffer from one sort of oral ailment or the other. And almost all of them are preventable. Therefore, educating them about this becomes paramount,” Dr Aerden said.

Meanwhile, officials of FDI World Dental Federation applauded the organisers for their support and their expertise in organising FDI’s first global congress in the Arab world.

They stated that the support of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum were instrumental in the success of FDI Dubai 2007.

Paul Wilson, FDI events director, said the congress, which opened on October 24 and ends today, features more than 600 stalls.

Besides nearly 40 scientific sessions and symposiums featuring more than 70 speakers were scheduled throughout the congress.
