Call for aid to Lanka flood victims

DUBAI - The Sri Lankan Consulate in Dubai has appealed for urgent help from the Sri Lankan community residing in Dubai and the northern emirates for thousands of people affected by recent floods and landslides in the country.

"We need to mobilise urgently support of essential items including foodstuff, canned fish, milk powder, sugar, spices as well as clothes, which will be despatched in a 20 feet container for Colombo latest by Monday or Tuesday," Bandula Somasiri, Sri Lankan Consul-General in Dubai said.

The consulate will remain open on Friday and Saturday, specially to receive the relief material from the community and business and charitable organisations in the country.

He pointed out that donors can contact the consulate daily from 8am to 10.30pm even on weekends.
