Cabinet slams Israel's policy of assassination

ABU DHABI - The UAE on Monday condemned Israeli assassinations of Palestinian leaders.

A statement issued on Monday by the cabinet following its weekly meeting said these acts are against the international laws and pose a stumbling block to the Arab peace initiative.

Having met under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the cabinet passed a memorandum by minister of finance and industry on the development of trade and investment relations with the US.

Another memo on the agreement for encouragement and protection of investment and avoidance of double taxation with the government of Luxembourg was also approved.

The ministers reviewed a report from the minister of labour and social affairs on the restructuring of the local labour market.

A recommendation on levying Dh250 as export fees on every ton of steel scrap was also approved.

Minister of petroleum and mineral resources briefed the council on the outcome of the Opec's ministerial conference held in Vienna in March.

The cabinet heard a report from the minister of agriculture and fisheries on the FAO's 27th regional conference for the Near East which took place in Doha last month.
