Bull fighting: a traditional hobby for Fujairah citizens

FUJAIRAH — Bull fighting is a traditional passtime for Fujairah people. They gleefully adhere to this heritage. Hotels arrange special trips to take interested tourists to watch this extraordinary spectacle, which is presented without shedding a drop of blood. The winner is the one who stands firmly in the arena and receives the applause and cheers of the viewers, while the other takes to its heels.

The arena is a huge square overlooking the corniche. The fight usually starts at 1.30 or 2 in the afternoon. In the event of a bull being slightly injured, it is treated on the spot. But if it is unfortunate to have been seriously hurt, then it is slaughtered. On the other hand, the winner’s price soars high, and sometimes reaches Dh50,000.

Fujairah citizens pride themselves on this hobby, especially the winners.
