BUiD gets new vice-chancellor

DUBAI — The British University in Dubai (BUiD) has appointed Dr Abdullah M. Alshamsi, a UAE national, as its new vice-chancellor. Among his ambitious plans for BUiD, Dr Alshamsi wants the university to play a major role in both the UAE’s private and public sectors which he says is crucial to the country’s growth.

The new vice-chancellor also anticipates BUiD entering new partnerships with universities in Britain, building on the list of current partner institutions of Birmingham, Cardiff, City University Edinburgh and Manchester.

5km walkathon to raise funds

DUBAI — In a bid to raise health awareness and generate charity funds for Al Noor Centre, Shoe Mart is organising the Shoe Mart Walkathon on February 16. The 5km walk will be flagged off from the Jumeirah Beach Park on Beach Road, Dubai, at 10 am and will end at the Al Noor Centre, where participants will enjoy a carnival atmosphere, including food, activities and competitions with attractive prizes.

Training course for ministry staff

ABU DHABI — The Emirates Institute of Diplomacy will start a training programme for the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 18. Yossuf Al Hassan, General Manager of the Emirates Diplomatic Institute, emphasised the importance of training and building up capabilities for the diplomats. The training will last until March 8.
