“Whoa. That’s fantastic news,” she said. Her reaction was typical of the upbeat mood in the city. Chris Park, her son, and a student who attends college in England was also pleased.

“I think it’s terrific news, and I think they deserve it. It has been a long time since London hosted the Olympics, and it’s about time they hosted them again. The reaction in Britain was mixed. Claire Crawford (25) from London isn’t as happy as some. “I wonder whether this will prove to be value for money, and whether the investment will pay off and prove worthwhile. I’d rather the money went to more high profile causes,” she said.

Katie Parr (40) from Glasgow took the opposite view. “I’m delighted. It’s great news. My son will be 15 when the Olympics come to London, and he is already planning his trip there. It’s great news for London,” she said.
