The book sale, which was started four years ago in response to a request from the Palestine Children's Welfare Fund (PCWF), aims at raising funds for an English reading program in the village of Jayyous in the West Bank.

PCWF introduced the program after Israel had constructed the Separation Wall, which resulted in banning all children from leaving the village.

The event was coordinated by Maureen Szulczewski, DWC faculty, who has been involved with the PCWF for several years and who coordinates a small group of DWC people who sponsor needy Palestinian children through the fund.

"Every time I organise this book sale I feel like wanting to do more especially after I notice the willingness of individuals to help out.

“The book sale has been very popular with DWC staff and we were able to raise 6648 AED this year," she noted.
