This was announced by the organisation's interim board at a Press conference here yesterday.

The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Mattar Humaid Al Tayer, has issued a ministerial decree, setting up the Society for the Protection of UAE Building Heritage.

The main objectives of the new organisation, which will have its headquarters in Dubai, include study and preservation of the country's building heritage and to effectively utilise them to showcase the UAE's civilisation and history to the world.

According to the organisation's board Chairman, Rashad Bukhash, the organisation will work to create public awareness about the importance of preserving building heritage.

It will also provide a mechanism for cooperation between government quarters and private bodies interested in protecting the country's building heritage.
