During the campaign, Dr. Haider Al Yousif, family physician at the Department of Health and Medical Service in Dubai International Women’s Club premises, which were attended, by more than 80 women as well as a number of medical technicians and members of women and children’s organisations in Dubai, conducted lectures.

Dr. Al Yousif said that blood donations for thalaessemic children is a great human deed, as thalaessemia is one of the most common genetic diseases known to man. It results in severe anemia and related long-term complications requiring monthly blood transfusion and other medications for life. “It is also very common in the UAE and the Middle East,” he said.

A number of thalaessemic children need blood transfusion on a regular basis and most of these children and adults die from loss of blood during surgery or accidents. He urged people to donate blood to thalassemic patients to give them a chance to survive.

Iman Ismail, Head of the New Muslim Section in Auqaf said that the campaign was aimed at raising awareness that even a drop of blood gives others an opportunity to live.
