Dubai — The UAE has temporarily banned imports of all live birds and their products and offal from the UK, the Netherlands and Germany due to bird flu cases in those countries. The decision was announced on Thursday by Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water.

The temporary ban includes all kinds of domesticated, wild and ornamental living birds, and all their products and offal. It is based on reports from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on the appearance of the highly pathogenic avian influenza in the three European countries.

The ban will be valid until the international watchdog says these countries are free from bird flu, according to the resolution.

However, heat-treated bird meat imports from the three countries are exempted from the new import rule.
