‘Bird flu vaccine robberies nothing but a silly joke’

ABU DHABI — A top government official has denied rumours that anti-social elements, posing as doctors and nurses in charge of vaccinating people against the bird flu virus, were robbing homes.

He said the rumours that spread over the last 48 hours were baseless.

Majid Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the National Committee for Emergency Response to the Bird Flu, said that the rumours spread through SMS and “it is nothing but a silly joke.”

The rumours followed Press reports that a man was caught in Texas, USA, on charges of administering a fake vaccine to several people attending a health exhibition in Texas.

They also followed a court verdict against a registered nurse who was sentenced to nine months in jail for administering fake vaccines in a chain of clinics in Minneapolis, USA.
