Only 10 of Gaza's 36 hospitals are currently even partially functioning
Siddique Mohammed Al Mansouri has now regained health and has been discharged from the Hospital.
Elaborating on the surgery, Dr Mohammed Yumen, Director of Medical Affairs and Head of the Chest Surgery Department at the hospital, said the operation was conducted laparoscopically by a multi-disciplinary team.
"The cyst was in the form of a bag of about one litre of liquid," Dr Yumen added.
"Mansouri came to the hospital on a wheelchair. He was suffering from high blood pressure, breathing difficulty and paralysis of the vocal cords, He was not able to speak clearly," said Dr Yumen.
He said the medical history of the patient indicated that he had rheumatism and had two open heart surgeries abroad.
"Investigations showed that he had a big cyst in the middle of the chest, causing disruption in the functions of the right lung and heart," said Dr Yumen.
Dr Harbi Darweesh, Chest Surgeon at the hospital who participated in the surgery, explained: "Due to the health complications the patient already had, we were very cautious about anaesthesia and carefully adopted necessary measures to avoid complications."
He said that shortly after the surgery, the patient got back his voice and started to breath normally.
Mansouri, who was extremely happy with the outcome, said he was planning to go abroad to undergo surgery. He extended his gratitude to the team of doctors at Mafraq Hospital.
