Better not to wait any more!

TRADE licences of over 4,800 companies were recently cancelled because their owners did not extend or renew them for five years, nor did these companies take any step towards legalising the presence of their employees in the country. Being the sponsors, they were duty-bound to ensure that their employees lived here with legal status.

The Department of Establishments Affairs at the Ministry of Labour in Abu Dhabi is taking a second look at the case of these companies. But we feel that they do not deserve any more sympathy as they displayed complete disregard to the law of the land for full five years. They functioned here without any legal basis during this period.

We understand that a few of the companies may deserve a considerate treatment on legally valid grounds, but most others do not. What is required is to put an end to this illegal drama by cancelling the licences once and for all.

It is better not to wait any more for a final decision on these habitual violators of law.
