The operations room of the Dubai Police had received a number of reports on thefts in shops in Dubai.

On November 20, the police received information about a shop theft at the Al Khawaneej area.

According to the police officials, the main door of the shop was destroyed and money was stolen.

“As the thief was on his way out at around 5am, a barber spotted him and tried to pin him down,” officials said.

“But the thief kicked him and ran away. After this, the barber called the police.”

Based on the description, the police suspected a Yemeni national by the name of Mansour Ali Ahmed to be behind the crimes.

The man had been arrested many times by the police earlier for thefts and had been deported after serving jail terms, the police said.

The cops set a trap for him and started to monitor the shops in and around the Khawaneej area. At around 6pm on November 24, the police spotted the man at the Nad Al Sheba area.

When searched, a sum of Dh3,900 was recovered from him. The police also found currencies of India, Pakistan, Qatar, the US and Saudi Arabia on him.

Mansour first denied of any involvement in the thefts but the barber identified him.

Later, the man confessed that he used to frequently enter UAE through the border for the purpose of stealing.
