Bangla showbiz awards today

DUBAI — The Fourth Lux-Channel I Performance Award, one of the biggest Bangla showbiz events, will be held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium today.

This year, the award will be given to Bangladeshi artistes in recognition of their excellence in 18 categories. Runa Laila, the singing sensation of the subcontinent, will rock the audience along with a group of 45 celebrities and artistes from Bangladesh. Popular TV actor Afzal Hossain will anchor the show. The event is held outside Bangladesh to serve the dual objectives of promoting Bangladeshi culture abroad and developing a closer relationship with the host country. “We are happy with the show as these type of programmes help exchange cultural views with the Arab world and builds a bridge of understanding between the two communities,” says Mahmudur Rahman, Commercial Counsellor in Bangladeshi consulate, Dubai.

RTA appointments

DUBAI — The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has appointed a number of nationals in key positions in RTA’s agencies, departments and sections. Yousef Al Madani has been appointed Manager of Control Centre at the Transport Systems Department, while Mariam Obaid Al Muhiri has been appointed Manager of Reservation and Distribution at the Transport Systems Department. Among other appointees are Mohammad Masoud Janahi, Manager of Transport Programmes Management, and Ghayath Mohammad Hashim Mohammed Zaman, Manager of Fare Systems at the Rail Operation Department of the Rail Agency.

Cyber-terrorism

SHARJAH — The 5th session of the Middle East Information Technology Security Conference (MEITSEC), one of the region’s one most prestigious information security events, will be held at the American University in Sharjah from November 12 to 15. MEITSEC 2007 will bring under the spotlight law enforcement’s role in fighting cyber-terrorism, said Brig. Hussain Al Ghazal, Deputy Director of Planning in the Development Division, Sharjah Police.
